End Of An Era: Fruitcake?

I was dri­ving down the road this morn­ing when it occurred to me. Not once this sea­son have I received any type of joke regard­ing fruit­cake. I called Becky and explained my rev­e­la­tion and she agreed that she hadn’t even seen a fruit­cake at the gro­cery store.

Could it be the fruit­cake, scorned for decades, has been mocked into extinc­tion? Per­son­ally, I will miss the fruit­cake; not for it’s taste, but because it was always there to take the blunt of a joke dur­ing the holidays.

You watch. One hun­dred years from now some­one is going to have an idea. Why not throw a lot of fruit into a cake and call it fruit­cake. In fact, what a nice Christ­mas cake it would be! Ok, per­haps you won’t really be able to watch in one hun­dred years, but trust me, it will happen!
